ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s average coconut prices went up to 83,443 from 81,228 for 1,000 nuts at an auction on June 27, data from the Coconut Development Authority shows.
Coconut auction prices rose 10 percent over June and are up 32 percent from the lows of 62,900 seen at the beginning of June.
Coconut auction are near the historic highs seen in the first quarter of 2023.
The highest price was 95,000 for 1000 nuts at the June 27 auction, up from 86,200 while the lowest was 77,000 up from 66,000 for 1000 nuts.
A total of 337,179 coconuts were offered at the auction and 324,726 were sold.
Wholesale prices were 95 to 110 rupees for large nuts and 85 to 90 rupees for small nuts in the week to June 20.
Farmgate prices in Kurunegala were 75,000 – 80,000 per 1,000 nuts.
Coconut oil was 710,000–750,000 rupees per metric ton.
Coconut shells were 30,000 – 31,000 rupees per metric ton. (Colombo/June30/2024)
